The United Way of South Central Massachusetts (UWSCM) hosted its 18th Annual Day of Caring, aligning with United Way's National Day of Action on June 21st. This community-wide volunteer event brought together one hundred volunteers from local companies and residents, with the youngest participant being an enthusiastic 8-year-old.

The day was dedicated to giving back and making a positive difference in the communities served by UWSCM. Volunteers tackled fifteen different projects across Southbridge, Sturbridge, Dudley, and Webster. Project types ranged from beautification efforts and landscaping to painting and organizing at non-profit organizations. Volunteers were found at the following project sites: Dudley – Pearle L. Crawford Library, Webster-Dudley Boys and Girls Club, and Tri-Valley, Inc. Southbridge:  Catholic Charities, Heritage Trail, Joe Capillo Park, and Henry St. Park, WCAC Head Start, YMCA, and the Opacum Land Trust tree project on Marjorie Lane. In Sturbridge: Old Sturbridge Village, Leadmine Trail, and Chamber of Central MA South. Webster:  Guild of St. Agnes and Gladys E. Kelly Library.

Kick-off events were held at Southbridge Town Common and MAPFRE Insurance in Webster, setting an energetic tone for the day. Volunteers enjoyed a delicious breakfast provided by Elm St. Cafe, generously sponsored by the Rotary Club of Southbridge. This year, volunteers received stylish new aprons sponsored by Savers Bank, a helpful addition for their service projects.

“We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and enthusiasm of our volunteers,” said Mary O’Coin, UWSCM Executive Director. “Their willingness to give their time and energy truly makes a difference in the lives of others. It is extremely rewarding to partner with great companies like MAPFRE Insurance, Cornerstone Bank, Webster Five, OFS and others who allow their employees to take the time to volunteer during the workday. Many of our member agencies participated by either offering project opportunities or getting out there and volunteering someplace else!”

The Day of Caring is a significant event for UWSCM, fostering community spirit and creating a lasting impact. The organization looks forward to continuing this tradition and making a positive difference in the towns of Charlton, Dudley, Southbridge, Sturbridge, and Charlton.
